Renovation of the Amsterdam Central Station

Renovation of the Amsterdam Central Station

Amsterdam Central welcomes around 192,000 passengers every day, and thousands of trains pass through its concourses and platforms daily. The station opened in October 1889, meaning the structure has now been under constant strain for over 135 years. This places high demands on maintenance.

SealteQ carried out the renovation of the longitudinal and transverse joints in the platform structure. Years of exposure to moisture, vibrations and temperature fluctuations had caused rust to become deeply embedded in the joints.

The work involved manually removing rust from all affected joint surfaces, followed by a coating treatment. The station remained fully operational throughout the work.

The result is a stable, well-protected joint structure that can withstand the daily strain of Amsterdam’s busiest rail traffic.
