Maintenance work on the Tweede Rijksbrug Sittard

Maintenance work on the Tweede Rijksbrug Sittard

The Second Rijksbrug in Sittard is a vital link in the Dutch rail network. The bridge on Doctor Nolenslaan carries daily rail traffic whilst allowing road traffic to pass underneath. It is a structure that is under constant strain and requires regular maintenance.

On behalf of ProRail, Balm carried out extensive maintenance work on the bridge. The concrete columns and abutment were cleaned, repaired and given a new coating. The embankment was repaired and repaved. In addition, two steel beams were replaced and two additional steel beams were installed to protect the railway bridge.

The result is a structurally sound and well-protected bridge, ready to withstand the demands of the coming years.

Renovation of the Amsterdam Central Station

Amsterdam Central welcomes around 192,000 passengers every day, and thousands of trains pass through its concourses and platforms daily. The station opened in October 1889, meaning the structure has now been under constant strain for over 135 years. This places high demands on maintenance.
