Frans Nooren Heerenveen from the SealteQ Group started working on the tunnel at Egelantierstraat in Leeuwarden in early May 2013.
Various disciplines from the SealteQ Group were needed to bring the combination of the bicycle tunnel and car tunnel back to good condition. After the preparatory work, such as cleaning, blasting, and ripping the asphalt from the surfaces to be treated, the concrete repair of the bicycle tunnel began, including injecting cracks in the walls, the underside of the deck, and the floor of the tunnel.
MultiPaint handled the coating of the deck and walls, while Frans Nooren Heerenveen repaired the expansion joints in the bicycle tunnel.
Work then commenced on the car tunnel, where the walls, deck, and floor showed significant damage. A wide range of injection techniques were applied here.
MultiPaint also provided the coating in the car tunnel, and the expansion joints were restored. Soon, asphalt will be applied, including smart asphalt reinforcement solutions, followed by the installation of quiet bitumen joints and Drainflex systems. A notable detail is the use of graffiti in the bicycle tunnel. The municipality of Leeuwarden has a policy aimed at facilitating graffiti in an organized manner, making the tunnel combination truly deserving of the term “artwork.”
The municipality of Leeuwarden entrusted Frans Nooren Heerenveen with the complete coordination of the project, ensuring that all activities were perfectly aligned. The restoration of this tunnel combination was carried out entirely in accordance with the client’s requirements, ensuring that the tunnel can withstand the elements for years to come.
