Concrete repair to the cooling water channel at Geertruidenberg

In Geertruidenberg, Balm – part of the SealteQ Group – is working on the repair of the cooling water channel used to supply and drain cooling water to and from the cooling tower. Following the partial renovation of the cooling tower last year, it is now the turn of the concrete in the cooling water channel to undergo a sustainable repair treatment.

Balm has been commissioned to carry out this concrete repair work. The work consists of three parts:

  • Removal of damaged concrete: the damaged concrete and loose sections are removed to create a sound and stable substrate for the repair work.
  • Treatment of the reinforcement: the exposed reinforcement is treated in preparation for repair, to prevent further corrosion.
  • Concrete spraying: damage to the concrete is repaired using concrete spraying, a technique that ensures a durable, high-quality bond with the existing concrete.

Once the repair work has been completed, a surface treatment is applied. This slows down the carbonation process and provides the concrete with long-term protection against external influences.

A distinctive feature of this project is that the work is being carried out from pont
