Guest lecture by Ömer Likoglu at the course on tackling foundation problems

A good foundation is the basis for any structure. Consider, for example, the foundation of your own home. If your home is not properly founded, there can be major consequences. Cracks may appear in the walls or you may have to deal with subsidence. The foundation (KCAF) estimates that about 1 million homes in the Netherlands could face foundation problems. This is a rough estimate because you cannot see foundations. Moreover, there are changing environmental factors that affect the condition of foundations. But even though it is a rough estimate, this number certainly indicates that this is a serious problem.

In collaboration with various knowledge institutions and experts, the KCAF regularly organizes the Foundation Problems Approach course together with PAO Techniek en Management (PAOTM) (TU Delft). In this course, participants will learn more about the origins of foundation problems, how to prevent them from getting worse, and how (if it is too late) the foundation can be repaired. During the course last June, our colleague Ömer Likoglu was a guest to tell us more about injection techniques. Because many people are unaware that injection techniques are a good option for tackling foundation problems. The advantage is that you do not have to deal with demolition and construction work and that it can be carried out quickly and at relatively low costs. In addition, it is also sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The participants in this course were interested people from all kinds of organizations who would like to learn new techniques to be able to give good advice to people who have problems with their foundations. A new edition of this course will start in September.
