The importance of concrete maintenance

Maintaining concrete is crucial to preserve its structural integrity and aesthetic strength. Without regular maintenance, concrete structures can crack, crumble, or be affected by moisture and chemicals. This can lead to expensive repairs and even safety risks. Regular maintenance and a proactive approach extend the lifespan of concrete and provide optimal protection for commercial buildings.

Regular Inspection

One of the most important steps in concrete maintenance is conducting periodic inspections of the concrete. Check the concrete surfaces for signs of wear such as cracks, discoloration, or moisture problems. Small cracks can quickly expand and cause serious damage if not addressed in time. The following recommendations contribute to an effective inspection:

  • Regularly walk around the concrete structures and look for visible damage.
  • Use a moisture meter to detect moisture problems early.
  • Note any damage and immediately seek help for concrete repair.

Cleaning Concrete

Keeping concrete clean is essential to maintain its durability. Dirt, oil, and chemicals can affect concrete surfaces. Periodic cleaning using the steps below keeps the concrete in good condition.

  • Use a pressure washer to remove dirt and deposits.
  • Avoid aggressive chemicals that can damage the concrete.
  • Use mild cleaning agents and gently brush the surface clean.

Performing Minor Repairs

It is important to quickly repair small cracks and holes to prevent further damage to the structure. Minor repairs can be resolved independently by consulting the instructions below. For larger concrete renovations and concrete repairs, we refer you to our services.

  1. Thoroughly clean the crack to remove dirt and loose particles.
  2. Apply a suitable concrete repair mortar.
  3. Smooth out the repair with a trowel and allow it to fully cure.

Protection against Moisture

Moisture is one of the major causes of concrete damage. It can lead to corrosion of the reinforcement and weakening of the structure. To protect the concrete against moisture, you can consult the following advice:

  • Impregnate the concrete surface with a water-repellent agent.
  • Ensure proper drainage around the concrete structure.
  • Repair cracks and holes to prevent moisture penetration.

Use of Protective Coatings

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How often should I inspect concrete?

We recommend inspecting concrete structures at least twice a year, in spring and autumn. This allows you to identify and address any damage caused by extreme weather conditions in a timely manner.

  • What is the best way to repair cracks in concrete?

Clean the crack thoroughly, fill with concrete repair mortar, level the surface, and allow it to cure properly before subjecting the concrete to load again.

  • Why is it important to impregnate concrete?

Impregnating concrete helps to keep out moisture and harmful substances, thereby extending the lifespan of the concrete structure and reducing the risk of damage from moisture and corrosion.
