With the growing need for student housing in the city of Groningen, construction of the Woldring Complex began in 2018. This new development project has realized 435 new student residences and 4 commercial spaces on the ground floor. SealteQ, commissioned by main contractor Van Wijnen, was able to apply a different color floor finish on each floor of the complex.
Woldring complex fitted with multiple floor finishes
14 different colors of floor coating
The Woldring Complex consists of multiple buildings, with the tallest building having 14 floors, the ground floor plus 14 stories. On each floor, a poured floor has been applied in the central hall, finished in a different color for each level. Prior to the application of the poured floors, cementitious cove bases were installed along the wall and floor connections in the corridors. Subsequently, the substrate, an anhydrite floor, was pre-treated by dust-free sanding. The sanding removed impurities and loose parts. This also achieved a good roughness, ensuring that the floor finish to be applied would adhere well to the substrate.
Application of Floor Finish
Before applying the first layer of the coating system, moisture measurements were taken. This is necessary because the maximum moisture percentage may not exceed 0.5%. The floor system consists of a primer layer, a screed layer, a poured layer of 2.7kg/m², and finally a top coat to seal the floor. 24 hours after sealing the floor system, it was walkable again. After 7 days, the entire floor system was fully cured. In total, 4,340m² of floor finish was applied in the corridors of the Woldring Complex. Additionally, 1,481m² of flooring in the technical and storage areas was provided with a two-layer system. The 936m² courtyard, located at the rear of the complex, will be given an anti-slip finish this year.
