In Enschede, SealteQ Noord has renovated one of the largest car parks in the Netherlands. Van Heekplein in Enschede is one of the largest market and shopping squares in the Netherlands. The shopping district of Enschede, with an underground car park, is located on and around this square.

The car park was in need of renovation, partly due to cracks appearing in the concrete and peeling coating. This prompted the Municipality of Enschede, in collaboration with SealteQ Noord, to develop and implement a new preservation plan that could guarantee quality, comfort, appearance, and waterproofing.
In total, an area of approximately 24,000 m2 of concrete was renewed and strengthened. The work performed by SealteQ Noord, in collaboration with BASF, comprised:
- Milling of old layers;
- Blasting of the surface;
- Application of a scratch coat, flexible membrane, and broadcasting thereof;
- Installation of new expansion joints;
- Application of a flexible crack-bridging coating on the entire surface;
- Application of markings.
The project was divided into 28 phases; during each phase, the relevant section of 700 – 1100 m2 was cordoned off and treated. Two phases were completed every one and a half weeks.
The challenge was to ensure that the applied coating would not crack. In collaboration with BASF, it was decided to apply a flexible membrane as an intermediate layer, which provides the entire surface with flexibility and prevents crack formation.
