Multipaint, part of the SealteQ Group, carried out the blasting and preservation work for Machinefabriek Emmen. The smaller parts for the beautiful swing cable-stayed bridge were manufactured in Emmen, and the movable steel bridge section was made in a warehouse in Zwartsluis. Multipaint had to provide the necessary facilities in the warehouses in the form of tents, in order to be able to blast and preserve safely under ideal conditions. After completion of these activities, the bridge sections were transported by ship over the IJsselmeer and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Rijswijk. The various parts were assembled and secured at the bridge location. The section that had to be hoisted into place on May 12 weighs 150 tons and has a length of 40 meters. 3 cranes were needed to lift the construction into place. According to the current planning, the bridge will be opened to cyclists and pedestrians in mid-July 2014. A wonderful project to work on and strictly according to plan. Activities that fit perfectly into Multipaint’s area of expertise.
