Renovation Central Station Amsterdam

The specialists from SealteQ are currently involved in the renovation of the IJ viaduct at Amsterdam Central Station, a crucial infrastructure hub used daily by thousands of travelers. The IJ viaduct is the old steel structure beneath the tracks and platforms on the IJ side of the station.

Commissioned by BAM Infra Nederland, we are responsible for a series of specialized tasks, including the creation of new expansion joints and the application of waterproof seals.

Our work includes cleaning the surfaces of the 363-meter-long steel structure, replacing existing joints, and carefully applying new, durable seals. Additionally, the durability of the viaduct is enhanced by the specialists applying a waterproof membrane.

The specialists also preserve the steelwork. In the concrete track bed, we partially expose hundreds of steel beams to preserve them anew. Subsequently, the exposed concrete structure is restored. The platform walls consist of a steel structure clad with steel plates. This structure is preserved on-site. The cladding has been dismantled and is being re-blasted and coated in our blasting cabin in Bergum.

This renovation is a beautiful collaboration between steel and concrete. It is of great importance for the sustainability and safety of the viaduct. With our expertise and dedication, we ensure that the IJ viaduct is ready to continue fulfilling its vital role in Amsterdam’s public transport in the future.
