Preservation and replacement of the wearing course on the De Ring cycle bridge in Drachten

SealteQ is carrying out the preservation and resurfacing of the De Ring Cycle Bridge The De Ring Cycle Bridge is a striking cycle and pedestrian bridge spanning the A7 motorway in Drachten. The bridge forms an important link between the centre of Drachten and the Azeven business park. The design is by the British engineering firm Arup and is known for the striking red circular element in the centre of the bridge, which symbolises a bicycle wheel with spokes. Drachten with a three-layer coating system to protect against corrosion.

The bridge was completed in 2005 and opened to traffic in 2006. After nearly twenty years of heavy use, it is time for major maintenance work on the steel structure and the bridge deck.

SealteQ is carrying out all the preservation work on the bridge. The entire steel structure is being treated with a three-layer coating system, which will provide long-term protection against the elements and corrosion. As part of the additional work, the entire wearing course of the bridge deck will also be replaced during the closure. By carrying out both tasks simultaneously, disruption to users is minimised and maintenance is carried out efficiently.

Much of the work will be carried out from the A7 motorway. This places additional demands on accessibility, safety and traffic management measures. The work will mainly take place in the evening and at night, from around 7.30 pm, with one or two lanes of the motorway closed.

Comprehensive traffic management is also part of the contract awarded by the municipality of Smallingerland. Safety, traffic flow and minimal disruption to traffic are key priorities during the works.
