New coating system bridge Farmsum extends service life significantly

On behalf of Spie Nederland B.V. and Van den Herik-Sliedrecht, SealteQ has applied a new three-layer coating system to the bascule bridge and drawbridge of the sea lock complex in Farmsum (Delfzijl) over the past three weeks.

Three-layer Coating System

Over the past three weeks, the fall sections of both the bascule bridge and the drawbridge have been sandblasted and provided with a durable three-layer coating system from PPG. With the application of the three-layer coating system, the bridges will be protected. Additionally, the superstructure of the drawbridge has been cleaned and de-rusted to P St 3, and subsequently, a three-layer coating system from PPG has also been applied to this. The lifespan of the bascule bridge and drawbridge has been significantly extended due to the work and the newly applied coating.

Waterway Remains Open

The Lemmer – Delfzijl waterway is one of the most important waterways in the Netherlands. To ensure that there was as little disruption as possible from the work on the bridges, additional measures were taken. One of these measures was to carry out work both during the day and at night. It was also decided to paint the superstructure of the drawbridge from the side using a cherry picker.
