Major maintenance on the Juliana lock complex in Gouda

The Juliana lock complex is a group of locks, bridges and associated structures on the Gouwe and Hollandse IJssel rivers in Gouda. The complex connects important waterways and also forms a transport hub, with the N207 provincial road running over it, among other things. The Juliana lock, built between 1932 and 1936, is a listed building.

Major maintenance work has been carried out on the complex since January 2026. Both shipping and road traffic can continue uninterrupted during the work. Balm is carrying out the concrete repairs on behalf of the Province of South Holland, commissioned by BAM Infra Nederland.

Work performed:

  • Renovation and repair of historic concrete: Damage is repaired manually and technical repairs are carried out after the lock chamber has been drained below the waterline.
  • Monumental finish: The color of the repair mortar has been carefully selected in consultation with the client and monument conservation authorities in order to preserve the historic character.
  • Injecting cracks: Water-bearing cracks are injected with PU foam resin to stop water inflow and protect the concrete.

Sustainable coating system and wear layer for steel bridge A10 South

Last year, we had the opportunity to carry out a special project for the TriAX consortium: the largest steel bridge that SealteQ has ever treated in its workshop. With a width of 18 meters and a length of 35 meters, including the ballast box, this bridge was completely blasted, coated, and provided with a wear layer.

Curious how we can further assist you with your project?
