Heuvelman Ibis and SealteQ have recently commenced the second phase of the renovation work on the concrete arch of the outer loader at Nouryon Salt under the name HIS v.o.f.
After the completion of phase one in August, HIS v.o.f. started phase two of this challenging project last week. Due to the limited availability of the outer loader for maintenance work, the activities have been divided into two separate phases. As in phase one, the work will involve repairing the heavily chloride-damaged concrete. The prefabricated structure on the west side of the concrete arch will also be largely removed. Subsequently, the underlying concrete will be repaired using shotcrete and provided with cathodic protection. The cathodic protection consists of titanium strips with an applied current, which are incorporated into a subsequently applied 25 mm thick layer of shotcrete. The protective final finish is a flexible, hairline crack-bridging sealing mortar.
During the first phase of the renovation of the salt loading facility, the initial steel pipe piles were restored. In the second phase, the remaining 39 pipe piles will also be blasted to cleanliness grade ISO-Sa2½ to remove corrosion and the existing coating. A new coating will then be applied with a total layer thickness of 750 µm. In addition to the work on the swing arch, the steel structure of the associated mooring jetty will also be addressed in a similar manner during the second phase. Furthermore, the remaining steel railings of the concrete swing arch will be replaced by Heuvelman Ibis with plastic railings, and the mooring jetty will be equipped with a new walkway.
The digital magazine iMaintain by Industrielinqs has written an article about the work at Nouryon Salt. The work on the concrete arch of the outer loader is complicated by the need to consider very challenging conditions, such as tides, storm and breeding seasons, and the requirement that the loader remains available during execution.
To manage the complexity of these renovation activities, HIS V.o.f. was established. HIS v.o.f. is a new enterprise consisting of Heuvelman Ibis and SealteQ. It combines the expertise of Heuvelman Ibis in the fields of hydraulic engineering, steel structures, and accessibility (crane ship, pontoons, etc.) with SealteQ’s expertise in steel, concrete renovation, and maintenance.
At the end of March 2019, SealteQ completed the extensive renovation of the Weena parking garage in the center of Rotterdam and delivered it to manager Jones Lang LaSalle and operator Q-Park. An intensive renovation, which started at the end of August 2018, was thus successfully completed. The Weena parking garage, built in 1968, has a capacity of 541 parking spaces and consists of a basement level and 4 floors above a substructure with offices and commercial spaces. After numerous reports of leaks and damage in the floors, it became clear that the Weena parking garage was due for a thorough renovation.
