Helicopter deck is a challenge at height
The helicopter deck is a piece of in-situ cast concrete measuring twenty by twenty meters, with a drainage channel around it. It is located on one of the roofs of a large complex, at a height of twenty meters. It is quite a challenge to work at such a height, especially for the transport of materials and equipment. Moreover, the helicopter deck could not be closed to traffic for too long. During the preparation, our specialists worked towards the most efficient and therefore fastest possible execution, combined with the use of quickly loadable materials. Successfully.
The Work
Because the helicopter deck had eroded, it became dirty faster than desired. Due to the erosion, the markings were also no longer clearly visible, which can be dangerous for approaching traffic. We blasted off the old markings and existing coating from the concrete deck to provide the new coating with the best possible new substrate. Additionally, we repaired damage and cracks in the concrete. An additional requirement from our client was a finish that was easy to clean and maintain. Our specialists therefore chose a Triflex finish, which is both durable and wear-resistant. This system is specially developed for floors that endure high loads. In the drainage channel, we applied a fleece, ensuring the waterproofing of this channel. Because the finish contains fast-reacting PMMA resin, the helicopter deck was quickly completed. Finally, we provided the helicopter deck with new markings, lines, and numbers, so pilots can safely land their helicopters again.
