Floors in Willinkplein parking garage in Emmen renovated and provided with new coating system

SealteQ Noord has been commissioned by the Municipality of Emmen to renovate the floors of the existing parking garage and provide them with a new coating layer. Additionally, they have been contracted by AKOR Bouw bv to apply a similar coating system to the floor adjacent to the existing -1 floor.

The work has been carried out on floor levels -1 and -2. Regarding the size of the floors, we are talking about approximately 15,000 m2. It can safely be said that this is a substantial project.

Work Activities

To achieve the desired result for the floor, many steps precede it. The process begins with treating the substrates by low-dust blasting / diamond grinding and then vacuuming. Floor sections that are not accessible by machine are manually pre-treated with a diamond grinding machine with extraction.

Additionally, various minor damages in the concrete substrate have been repaired. Pre-treating a substrate is an essential part of removing dirt, grease, dust, and other types of contaminants. The pre-treatment also ensures that the substrate is sufficiently rough and strong enough for the new coating system to be applied.

N/Mm² = Adhesion Strength

Before further steps can be taken, the substrate must have a minimum tensile strength of 1.5 N/mm² and must not contain more than 6% moisture. N/mm² is used to measure tensile strength. Tensile strength is the stress at which the material fails under tensile load.

To determine if the treated substrate meets the tensile strength requirements, a number of tensile strength measurements are performed using a pull-off tester. The moisture content of the substrate is measured with a moisture meter just before the application of the 1st layer.

Subsequent Work

After the substrate has been pre-treated, it is provided with a primer/screed layer. This layer consists of MasterTop P622 with approximately 600 grams/m2 of material applied and filled with MasterTop F1X ± 600 grams. The consumption is about 1.2 kg/m2. The layer is then sprinkled with dried quartz sand 0.4 – 0.8 mm. Once this layer has sufficiently cured, the excess sprinkling material is removed. After the substrate has been thoroughly cleaned, the sealing layer is applied. This consists of MasterTop BC 372. The consumption here is about 800 grams/m2. After sufficient drying of the sealing layer, the parking spaces, line markings, and pictograms are applied.

Our People

The project was carried out with the presence of an average group of 6 employees, including a working foreman, working in shifts. During the execution of the final phase, 8 employees completed the assignment. Due to the extensive experience, commitment, and drive of our people, SealteQ was able to complete the project to the satisfaction of and deliver it to the Municipality of Emmen and AKOR Bouw bv. After the work was completed, the Municipality of Emmen had a film made of the delivered work. This can be found at the bottom of this message.

Parking garages

SealteQ has had years of expertise in the execution of floor finishes in parking garages. The work in this area is very diverse. This includes renovating and coating floors, as well as cathodic protection and structural spraying.
