Concrete Repair and Basement Waterproofing in the Raw Aron Schuster Synagogue
The Raw Aron Schuster Synagogue is undergoing a substantial renovation in 2021. All components of the building, designed by architect Harry Elbe, are being addressed. Commissioned by J.C. Nieuwenhuizen Contracting Company, SealteQ resolved a moisture problem in one of the basement areas. Following the renovation, this space will function as a technical room, thus requiring effective moisture protection and sealing.
The persistent leak in the area was attributed to an opening in the structural concrete floor. This was discovered upon the removal of two sand-cement screeds with tiles. Our specialists rectified the opening in the structural concrete floor using reinforcing steel and concrete mortar.
Furthermore, there were several water-bearing cracks in the floor. These were also repaired by injecting and sealing them with a polyurethane resin. The connection between the concrete exterior walls and the floor was similarly sealed.
To ensure the basement remains as moisture-free as possible, a robust moisture-resistant system is essential. We treated the remaining masonry walls with a waterproof basement sealing system. Specifically, the bottom half meter was provided with a coating system capable of withstanding negative water pressure. Additionally, a three-component epoxy-cement floor mortar was applied to the concrete floor, serving as a moisture barrier against rising damp. The basement floor in the Raw Aron Schuster Synagogue was finished with a two-component poured floor system.
