On Jan. 9, State Secretary Raymond Knops handed over the renovated piers of Kralendijk, Bonaire to Island Governor Rijna of the Public Entity of Bonaire(OLB).SealteQ has thoroughly renovated the piers over the past year with innovative solutions such as applying glass and carbon reinforcement.
Glass and carbon reinforcement
Glass and carbon reinforcement was specifically chosen for repairing the piers because these concrete repair works are impervious to corrosion due to the salty environment. The demolition work on the underside of the pier with a working space of 1.40m, was carried out by a remotely controlled mini demolition robot. A progressive solution compared to manual demolition. After the demolition work, the significant concrete damage was repaired and partially replaced with glass reinforcement.
As a result of the renovation, the life of the piers has been extended for a period of 30-40 years.
