Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Brinkmannpassage Haarlem

Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Brinkmannpassage Haarlem

In the Brinkmannpassage in Haarlem, the former office and utility spaces are being transformed into approximately 100 apartments. To install cables and pipes, openings had to be made in the concrete floors, which involved cutting through part of the reinforcement. To restore the structural strength, SealteQ applied carbon fiber reinforcement.

This modern reinforcement technique increases the load-bearing capacity, extends the lifespan of the structure, and makes it possible to reuse the existing building in a sustainable and future-proof manner.

Each application of carbon fiber reinforcement begins with a structural calculation by a structural engineer. For this project, we then carefully prepared the substrate by means of diamond grinding, followed by performing adhesion strength measurements on the existing substrate. Finally, the carbon laminates were bonded with epoxy, resulting in a durable and strong reinforcement.

Advantages of Carbon Fiber Reinforcement

Carbon fiber reinforcement combines a low weight with high strength, which directly strengthens concrete structures without extra load. The material is corrosion-resistant, which significantly extends the lifespan of the structure. In addition, carbon fiber is flexible and can be applied to various surfaces and shapes, making the technique versatile and efficient.
